Microsoft is removing Entra credentials for school and work from jailbroken and rooted devices running iOS and Android.

The process is automatic and there is no opt-out. If Microsoft Authenticator detects that a device has been jailbroken or rooted, it will first display a warning, then block access, and finally wipe credentials. critical imbalance for Europe lies in software.1 Economically and politically, US high tech makes Europe look like the loser that Twitter portrays it as on a daily basis. Europe’s digital dependency on the United States has quietly become a geopolitical risk.2 The tariff wars did not create that vulnerability. They exposed it. If that infrastructure were ever used as a political weapon, the consequences would be devastating.

In 2026, this scenario is no longer that far-fetched. The US economy needs Europe buying its tech. One year without EU income would be very difficult. But Europe completely depends on US tech to function. Even a temporary disruption to core US platforms would severely disrupt European administration, logistics, and finance. With the rise of AI technologies, the dependency will only increase.3

"If minors or adults are deplatformed via age-related bans, they are likely to migrate to find similar services," warn the scientists. "Since the main platforms would all be regulated, it is likely that they would migrate to fringe sites that escape regulation." With data on everyone collected in order to restrict the activites of minors, data abuses and privacy risks increase. "This in itself increases privacy risks, with data being potentially abused by the provider itself or its subcontractors, or third parties that get access to it, e.g., after a data breach, like the 70K users that had their government ID photos leaked after appealing age assessment errors on Discord."

Instead of mandated age restrictions, the letter urges lawmakers to consider the dangers and suggest regulating social media algorithms instead. They also recommend "support for parents to locally prevent access to non-age-appropriate content or apps, without age-based control needing to be implemented by service providers."

Wer das Volksbegehren unterzeichnen möchte, kann das ab dem 15. April tun. Dafür ist ein Besuch im Gemeindeamt notwendig. Denn eine digitale Lösung gibt es in Vorarlberg nicht – anders als bei bundesweiten Volksbegehren, die problemlos mittels ID-Austria-App online unterzeichnet werden können.

Die Hürden für eine digitale Unterschrift sind also weniger technischer, sondern vielmehr gesetzlicher Natur.
