“So it says here you’ve held executive positions at Theranos, FTX and most recently, WeWork.”
“That’s right, I’ve dedicated my career to non-profits.”
Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google, Meta Platforms (META.O) and TikTok on Thursday won backing from Europe's top court in their fight against an Austrian law requiring them to delete hate speech or face fines of up to ($10.69 million).
The Austrian law, enacted in 2021 and which obliges Big Tech to publish regular reports of illegal content, comes amid mounting concerns worldwide about hateful posts.
In addition to public services, Very Large Online Platforms designated under the Digital Services Act (including services such as Amazon, Booking.com or Facebook) and private services that are legally required to authenticate their users will have to accept the EU Digital Identity Wallet for logging into their online services. In addition, the wallets' features and common specifications will make it attractive for all private service providers to accept them for their services, thus creating new business opportunities. The Wallet will also facilitate service providers' compliance with various regulatory requirements.
When a tech bro tries to understand life through his techbro-glasses, he comes up with this "batch vs. event loop culture" allegory.
"Modern tech, meanwhile, is pure event loop" - not the tech you want to be able to rely on, trust me. ;)
In AT hatten wir dazu ja schon 2015 den Realitätsabgleich, als der "Vertrauensdiensteanbieter" A minus Trust (A-Trust.at) vergaß, sein root Zertifikat in den Browsern zeitgereiht zu erneuern und damit eGovernment in AT zum erliegen brachte,

To pull off all those revelatory and often highly controversial actions, Direct Action Everywhere (which uses the abbreviation DxE) has also spent years evolving its toolkit and operational rigor—from communications security and physical stealth, to penetration tactics for getting inside factory farms and slaughterhouses. It has also long maintained a manual of its own methods for those operations. Now, for the first time, it's publicly releasing that guide.
Despite the “how-to” tone of the guide itself, do not try this at home. DxE investigators frequently face criminal charges, and DxE's critics in the agriculture industry and in law enforcement describe the group as radicals with extreme tactics.
EU policymakers should have the “courage and fair-mindedness” to pursue a sovereign cloud and regulate American cloud providers under the EU antitrust law on digital markets, Michel Paulin, CEO of the leading French provider OVHcloud, told Euractiv in an interview.
he video brilliantly envisioned a future dominated by computers, capturing the essence of a digitized society long before it became our reality. With remarkable foresight, it highlighted the ubiquity of screen interactions, forecasting a world where technology would become central to our daily lives.
Thirty-five years ago today (November 2nd), the Internet Worm program was set loose to propagate on the Internet. Noting that now to the computing public (and cybersecurity professionals, specifically) often generates an "Oh, really?" response akin to stating that November 2nd is the anniversary of the inaugural broadcast of the first BBC TV channel (1936), and the launch of Sputnik 2 with Laika aboard (1957). That is, to many, it is ho-hum, ancient history.
Perhaps that is to be expected after 35 years -- approximately the length of a human generation. (As an aside, I have been teaching at Purdue for 36 years. I have already taught students whose parents had taken one of my classes as a student; in five or so years, I may see students whose grandparents took one of my classes!
Equinix has reportedly blamed a contractor, alleging that person "incorrectly sent a signal to close the valves from the chilled water buffer tanks" during a planned system upgrade.
... the two banks had "fallen short" of MAS requirements to ensure critical IT systems are resilient. The authority requires that unscheduled downtime for critical systems affecting bank operations should not exceed four hours within any 12 month period – a limit easily exceeded in this case.
As a result, the MAS has slapped DBS with some hefty punishments – including barring it over the next six months from reducing the size of its branch and ATM network, making any non-essential IT changes, or acquiring new business ventures.
I interpret this as a positive sign that common sense is returning to the UK.

David McCallum, the Scottish actor who starred in NCIS, Man From U.N.C.L.E. and The Great Escape, died on Monday (9/25). McCallum also wrote one of Hip-Hop's most iconic samples. The David Axelrod-produced single "The Edge" from the album Music: A Bit More Of Me is the basis for Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode" which featured Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and the late Nate Dogg. The string line was also used on "Fallin' On" by Tash and "M.I.A." by Missin' Linx.
RIP David McCallum, who I prefer to remember for his role as one half of the weirdest-TV-duo-ever, Sapphire and Steel. McCallum was a minor sex symbol in the 1960s, thanks to The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
He also did in the 1970s by a number of readings for the Caedmon label which included three albums of HP Lovecraft stories.
