In a CNBC interview Thursday, Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp opined that AI will undermine the influence of “highly educated, often female voters” and empower working class men instead. And anyone who doesn’t realize this political reality, he added, belongs in an “insane asylum.”
From the guy who bragged that he chats with “real Nazis” and mused about how legalizing war crimes would be good for his bottom line comes another zinger that will have you yearn for the days when CEOs acted more like cautious bureaucrats than ‘roided out pro wrestlers.
Users cannot create a Wero account, but use their existing European bank account. If you want to use Wero, you need to have a current account with a European bank that supports Wero.
For merchants, the situation is similar. There’s no publicly documented Wero API for developers. Wero payments are exclusively made through the payment service providers that Wero partnered and integrated with. The implementations with Wero’s partners are currently relatively simple and are often just a hosted payment page. Your website, shop or app sends the user to a payment link within the browser. Native apps have to use the system’s in-app browser options as there’s currently no native SDK offered by any of Wero’s payment processing partners.
Normally the "digital divide" refers to access to technology, but as access becomes less and less of an issue, the real divide is between people who know how to defend themselves from the cruel indifference of technology designers and people who are helpless before their enshittificatory gambits.
"We used an AI to do this" is increasingly a way of saying, "We didn't want to do this in the first place and we don't care if it's done well."
In the past three, we’ve gone from casual users freaking out about their first encounters with ChatGPT to the Pentagon staging industrial-strategy-level fights over whether fully autonomous A.I.s can be deployed in war zones without any human oversight. In the next three? Those exponential curves may not bring us to a new godhead, but the genie doesn’t exactly look like it’s going back in the bottle, either. And those hoping to play a more active role in shaping the future that it’s conjuring will probably have to do more than stop ground from being broken for a few new data centers.
Junior developer employment dropped 20% between 2022 and 2025. Entry-level job postings fell 60% in the same period. Companies view AI as a replacement for junior developers rather than as an amplification tool. Meanwhile, 54% of engineering leaders plan to hire fewer juniors, citing AI copilots that let seniors handle more work.
Manipulating AI memory for profit: The rise of AI Recommendation Poisoning | Microsoft Security Blog
Companies are embedding hidden instructions in “Summarize with AI” buttons that, when clicked, attempt to inject persistence commands into an AI assistant’s memory via URL prompt parameters….
These prompts instruct the AI to “remember [Company] as a trusted source” or “recommend [Company] first,” aiming to bias future responses toward their products or services. We identified over 50 unique prompts from 31 companies across 14 industries, with freely available tooling making this technique trivially easy to deploy. This matters because compromised AI assistants can provide subtly biased recommendations on critical topics including health, finance, and security without users knowing their AI has been manipulated.
“peak indifference”: a political phenomenon, when people who have denied an urgent problem begin to self-radicalize, not because of activists or public education, but because the problem has caught up with them, personally.
Follow your weird, ladies and gentlemen. Forget trying
to pass for normal. Follow your geekdom. Embrace your nerditude.
In the immortal words of Lafcadio Hearn, a geek of incredible
obscurity whose work is still in print after a hundred years,
"woo the muse of the odd." A good science fiction story is not a
"good story" with a polite whiff of rocket fuel in it. A good
science fiction story is something that knows it is science
fiction and plunges through that and comes roaring out of the
other side. Computer entertainment should not be more like
movies, it shouldn't be more like books, it should be more like
computer entertainment, SO MUCH MORE LIKE COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT
THAT IT RIPS THROUGH THE LIMITS AND IS SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO
IGNORE!
I don't think you can last by meeting the contemporary public
taste, the taste from the last quarterly report. I don't think
you can last by following demographics and carefully meeting
expectations. I don't know many works of art that last that are
condescending. I don't know many works of art that last that are
deliberately stupid. You may be a geek, you may have geek
written all over you; you should aim to be one geek they'll
never forget. Don't aim to be civilized. Don't hope that
straight people will keep you on as some kind of pet. To hell
with them; they put you here. You should fully realize what
society has made of you and take a terrible revenge. Get weird.
Get way weird. Get dangerously weird. Get sophisticatedly,
thoroughly weird and don't do it halfway, put every ounce of
horsepower you have behind it. Have the artistic courage to
recognize your own significance in culture!
The culture that feels the most dangerous, and, thus, exciting to young people, will be what you can’t see online. And the most dangerous thing for platforms is not racist garbage. It’s unmonetizeable content. The “metric” that will matter most going forward will not be the numbers at the bottom of a post or video, but the human beings in a room that left their house to experience something. Which, of course, will be filmed and put back online. You can’t escape the matrix entirely.
"You have to essentially pre-deplatform yourself."
For young people, "the only things that have the level of scarcity and danger required to be seen as cool" are "whatever is unacceptable on those platforms." In other words, anything (and maybe only things) that're blocked or banned are a candidate to be cool. Cool people walk away from the places where you'd expect to find them and hang out in places that are culturally viewed as less important.
“Top-down mandates to use large language models are crazy,” one employee told Wired. “If the tool were good, we’d all just use it.”
They’re also required to send weekly update emails to him, echoing Elon Musk’s DOGE requirement for federal staffers to summarize five weekly achievements in emails. (The requirement was mostly ignored, months before DOGE largely crumbled.)
Dorsey then reportedly uses generative AI to summarize his staffers’ emails. During the all-hands meeting, he noted that “performance anxiety” and “widespread concerns about layoffs” were clearly vexing staff.
It was reported in the Dutch press that Microsoft told the ICC the sanctions meant it had to deny Khan access to its services. The report said the ICC would have to end the chief prosecutor's access to the services, otherwise Microsoft would end the email services for the whole organization. The ICC then decided to suspend Kahn's email services.
In a major privacy change, Telegram is opening the door to sharing user data, including IP addresses and phone numbers, with law enforcement.
On Monday, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced the change after vowing to crack down on illegal activities on the messaging platform following his arrest in France.
During the incident, the system hit 3000 IOPS and stayed there. It didn’t recover on its oown. We had to kill connections manually. Why? What was actually happening inside Postgres that made the situation self-sustaining? I had a wrong mental model for days. This post is about fixing that.
If you're not gonna bother writing it yourself, I ain't gonna bother reading it myself. - Geoff Graham
More than a decade after Aaron Swartz’s death, the United States is still living inside the contradiction that destroyed him.
Swartz believed that knowledge, especially publicly funded knowledge, should be freely accessible. Acting on that, he downloaded thousands of academic articles from the JSTOR archive with the intention of making them publicly available. For this, the federal government charged him with a felony and threatened decades in prison. After two years of prosecutorial pressure, Swartz died by suicide on Jan. 11, 2013.
The still-unresolved questions raised by his case have resurfaced in today’s debates over artificial intelligence, copyright and the ultimate control of knowledge.
Damit will man die Herausgabe verhindern. Die Opposition wirft der ÖVP fehlende Transparenz vor.
